Assessments

At ACI Learning Centers we understand the importance of building an individualized program for our students. We pride ourselves in taking into consideration the way each child learns and understanding that no two children learn in quite the same way. When a student first starts to receive ABA therapy at ACI Learning Centers, we begin by completing an initial assessment do determine the focus of the student’s overall program. We take into consideration the child’s strengths and the areas to target for intervention.

Assessment tools include:

  • The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (Mark Sundberg, BCBA-D)
  • The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised (James Partington, BCBA)
  • ACI Social Skills Curriculum
  • ACI Play Protocol
  • And many other evidence based assessment tools

During the assessment, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) utilizes a combination of procedures including direct observation and direct testing of the student in many different situations. In conjunction with direct observation and testing, ACI also utilizes a parent interview to determine the focus and goals of the entire program. The assessment is designed to follow the student through their routines and embed testing and observation into activities the student finds enjoyable. Our team of professionals is highly trained in embedding learning opportunities into regular routines, play, and daily activities to help with determining each student’s skill set. By embedding direct testing and observation into play, our BCBAs ensure that the student enjoys their time with us by minimizing the impact of testing.

  • Independent play and downtime activities
  • Social interactions with adults and peers
  • Communication and language
  • Toileting routines and other daily living skills
  • Challenging behaviors
  • And many more areas determined individually

The assessment takes into consideration the entire picture of a student’s current abilities and helps the BCBA design an effective program individualized for that student in conjunction with the goals and focus from parents and other providers. At ACI we find that the team approach helps ensure the student is learning in all areas of their life and also assists with maximizing learning opportunities across environments.

Our focus for each and every student is to maximize learning, increase their social skill set, increase independence, increase and expand their communication and language, reduce challenging behaviors, and ensure that each of our students reaches their full potential using evidence-based research and treatments to achieve those goals.
